When I graduated I was asked if I would stay and do a PhD, but I considered that three years trying to line up a crystal in a lab would not be the best use of of my time. My young self was a bit foolish I think now!

Indeed it is even possible to get a PhD by making plenty of money in the corporate sector and donating a decent chunk of it a suitably prestigious house of higher learning, is it not? I don't seek to devalue the work of genuine scholars in any field, and neither do I begrudge the honours which are bestowed on them for such work, but in the final analysis an artfully framed certificate on the wall is just another piece of office furniture.

You're obviously quite right, my friend, and I have no grievance with the politenesses of academia. However there are many learned folk with PhD's who have never read a philosophy book in their entire lives, so a politeness of academia is all a PhD can sensibly mean in our modern era.

Yes I think all members so far have respect, courtesy and graciousness. This is nice and makes a good ambience.

The use of physics and science and technology in my estimation should certainly be questioned by these graciousnesses of mind as well as deeper philosophical and psychological connotations.

Now, this has brought up a whole pile of related topics and future conversations in my mind, which is exactly what I am looking for. Inspirations I suppose?

G'day all.

Thank you for inviting me. Zlatan and Jilan I have met elsewhere and would like to thank for the respect and courtesy they extended to me in a somewhat hostile environment. This hostility was nothing other than I expected but nevertheless such graciousness from them is warmly appreciated.

I'm not quite sure what I'm going to be able to contribute to a new science forum because I'm not exactly a scientist. I trained as a scientist but I haven't directly worked in science for a great many years. Instead I opted to become a philosopher of science and educate myself as broadly as I could in every science which attracted my curiosity, which is pretty much all of them because I'm really just a science nut. I can claim a good working knowledge in all sciences and a somewhat better grounding in others, such as the biological sciences. However I am very much a generalist and not a specialist, a point I need to stress.

I am well read in all the major schools of philosophy as well as quite a few minor ones and my approach to the major scientific questions of our day is primarily that of a philosopher. I regard it as one of the major tragedies of our modern era that these two traditional paths to truth have diverged and gone their separate ways. Since both purport to be exploring the nature of our physical reality they should be re-united and directed together towards this common goal.

In any event, that's the world according to Leo and I look forward to seeing what might come of this new venture.

This is just new and I will have to find my way around. Should be fun!
I make this forum to further interests in science and physics and relate it to psychology and philosophy.
After all we study for our reasons and learn and experiment for our reasons, so to me this all inter-relates.

Accepted science is good for us here to try to understand and share. I use the term "share" in place of teach, because I believe what we learn and understand we share when we can.

I have embarked on a journey to find core members to make a solid basis for this to be a good place to share sciences of all sorts and do it in a good and well meant manner. I do not wish to enforce any rules on anyone, as I wish for people to be free to express as they wish. If I do not care for how someone may post, I will say so, but I will not publicly threaten to ban as may be done in other places, because that is inhibitive to the freedom of expression I wish for all of us to share.

If you have what some call "crackpot theories" some other places, come on in and join and feel safe here. I am sure there were times when Einstein, Tesla, Copernicus, Galileo and tons of others were considered as "crackpots" by many.
