Thermal analysis Empty Thermal analysis

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if there are any thermal analysis experts here. I studied thermal physics in university and am soon to start working at https://www.linseis.com/ so I would love to read your thoughts on that! It's kind of hard to find peers in that field Very Happy

Not an expert, but I always wondered how thermal imaging worked.
Is it that photons on the infrared part of the spectrum are indicative of heat?
Seems strange.

Pretty sure that thermographic cameras actually just measure radiation!

But whilst watching wildlife documentaries on Lions, I notice that they use an 'infrared camera' as well as a 'heat camera'.
They are not quite the same image, and yet, I thought that infrared radiation WAS actually heat. So why are there two different cameras?

The infrared camera just seemed to show low-light, whereas on the heat-camera, you could see the brightness of the heat from the Lions mouth.
So is it that infrared = heat absolutely, or just approximately? Or is it a case of ambiguous wording?
