Hi all - introduction
I was invited to this forum on another science forum I'm 20 year old girl from a small, but beautiful European country and I study biotechnology. No, I'm not from Greece but I studied ancient Greek, Latin and bits of Hebrew ever since I was a little girl, so that's how I choose my username. That's it for now

Hi, and welcome to the forum, GnothiSeauton. A good place to get to know yourself! (For anyone unfamiliar with the phrase this username means in Greek "Know thyself"). A good basis for not only Western philosophy but also for Eastern philosophy as well.
A young fresh mind should certainly bring much to the forum, and I will be interested to hear more about Biotechnology for sure!

There are few female voices on science related forums, so yours might be especially welcome. May you find some engaging discussions.

Hi.
I hope you have much to teach us about biotech.
I'm still scratching the surface on this topic.
A while ago I noticed that the Greek and Hebrew alphabets
were strikingly similar, but could not figure out
if one evolved out of the other, or if they had a common origin.
Any thoughts?

Well, no one knows particulary, but it is believed that Greek and Hebrew (as well as most of Indo-european languages) evolved from Sanskrit. It is only known that ancestor of Greek is Linear A and B. Phoenicians gave name for each letter in Greek alphabet (eg. Gama is gimel because letter reminded them of camel). Ancient Greek dialect which I learned was Dorian, the official dialect in Athens (it is also dialect used in most philosophy texts).
