they really are good at clearing up the clutter.
I rate this as the best search engine by far that I have ever used

I'l check it out. I currently use mostly Bing. Technically it operates almost identical to Google, but you get paid a little for using it. So far in like around 1-2 years I have cashed in around $67 - USA, just searching what I would search for anyway. They also have really good language translators and calculators and images and such. I like the Bing homepage too, but you don't have to use the homepage. Incidentally, I use Opera as my main browsing engine.

I will stick with google for now but that is mostly because I am on a different operating system than most of you are.

Linux is the kernel, the shells are mostly GNU.
The idea is that the source files are open so that you can use and modify the code for your own purposes.
https://www.gnu.org/home.en.html
It comes in various flavours, some are free to use and some are only available for purchase.

Ubuntu is a complete operating system which is actually free to download and install.
I am trying to give you the link for the Ubuntu tour which should show you what it looks like.
http://tour.ubuntu.com/en/
If that link fails you can get there by going to Ubuntu.com and navigating to it.

Debian is another popular flavour.
https://www.debian.org/
Linux is also what a large number of the web servers run on.
Linux and open source have become big enough that windows is starting to work with it instead of against it.

This link explains more what the difference between the kernel and the operating system is.
I am posting it for you in case you missed it on the GNU page.
